Original Music Showcase (Bands)

WHAT IS THE ORIGINAL MUSIC SHOWCASE?

Each year from January through to April, every Sunday for 10 weeks, 30 original bands showcase for the opportunity to receive tools to help them improve their product and gain exposure.

The showcase is focused towards the development of quality within the original music universe. We strive provide a forum of performance in front of Industry Professionals who offer constructive and useful feedback Musicians can use for development. Every band receives their unedited feedback forms from their performance and we hope that the artists use it as a growth opportunity and developing the quality of their music and performance.

Each band will be required to play one cover song. This must be a creative rendition in the bands own way. Have fun with it!

Out of 30 acts, the top 3 scoring bands and 1 randomly selected Wildcard band will move to the Finals on April 28th 2019 where the scores reset at zero and it is anybody’s game. This night, each qualifying band will perform a 45-minute set (can do the same set as qualifying or a new one) utilizing the consideration of the feedback they received from the first showcase set and perform at their best. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, will all be determined this night. The scores will be tallied and the awards will be presented 20 minutes after the final act of the night!

How does it work:  Each Sunday for 10 weeks, 3 bands perform a 45-minute set of Original music for a panel of industry experienced judges against a set of 10 criteria in 5 categories which will count for 50% of your score. There will also be scoring from an app called Human Input. This app allows the crowd/fans to score each band out of 5 stars. This counts for 50% of your score.

Tickets: – Tickets for your show will be sold at $6 each. $2 of every ticket goes to a prize pot that will be divided and given to the winners of the competition. $2 of every ticket is donated to the CJAY 92 Kids Fund and the other $2 of each ticket is yours to keep.

Results: Unedited Results from the judges are given out the following Thursday of your show date. Read over the critiques and praise to finesse your show accordingly. If you score in the top 3 you will need to take these critiques into consideration for your showcase on the Finals/Awards night.

What is the event: This is a community and exposure-based event that provides Original bands the opportunity to perform for industry professionals, peers, fans and of course win a suit of exposure tools focused towards building a better platform for success to further their career.

We will be judging the following:

1) Stage Presence – The judges are looking for confidence, ability to command the stage, capturing the audience’s attention, control over nerves, your look, charisma and overall stage show as an ensemble.

2) Individual Musicianship –We will be looking for the artist’s ability to play their instruments without mistakes and with confidence.

3) Content/Songwriting/Hook – They will be listening for hooks or catches, whether it be the whole song or specific parts, rifts or licks.  They also will be listening for creativity in the musical arrangement, lyric quality and content and rhythmic styling depending on genre.

4) Originality – We want to hear a sound that you can call your own. This doesn’t mean that bands can’t fit into a certain music genre but they should be looking to find their own unique version of that genre.

5) Crowd Response – Judges are looking to see if the band brings in and engages the crowd and gets them involved. Judges want the crowd to watch the band and get excited. Each band will be given 100 tickets to help promote your show. 10% of your overall score is determined by how many tickets are returned through the door on the night of your showcase.

6) Cover Song – Each performing band will be required to play one cover song. This must be a creative rendition. Have Fun with it !
